A visit to World of Wedgwood offers an informative educational trip for UK and overseas groups, providing a meaningful and experiential opportunity for learning about the history and future of Wedgwood outside of the classroom.

Working in collaboration, World of Wedgwood and V&A Wedgwood Collection have created a cross-curricular learning programme designed for key stages 1 & 2, that provides an engaging and memorable experience exploring the story and creativity of Wedgwood, with the opportunity for plenty of hands-on learning.

Key Stage 1 & 2

Josiah Wedgwood: Staffordshire Superstar

Click below for the full learning information pack.

Our workshop in the V&A Wedgwood Collection introduces Josiah Wedgwood, a Staffordshire Superstar. Your pupils will meet young Josiah and take part in an interactive tour, discovering his life story, his great achievements in the Potteries industry and the importance of Staffordshire.  The workshop will finish with an opportunity to get creative, celebrating our Staffordshire Superstar by making a Wedgwood puppet to return to school. Your pupils will also explore the working Wedgwood factory, meet our team of expert craftspeople, and learn about shapes, patterns and materials.

How to Book

We hold our learning visits on Thursdays during term time and our current package of learning visits are open until the end of April – more dates to follow.

To enquire about a learning visit for your school, please follow the booking window on this page. Amend the number of pupils (guests) you wish to bring and put your school details in the special requests box on the next step.

V&A Teacher Resources for Secondary Schools

‘I am a Man and a Brother’:

This link takes you to the V&A Wedgwood Collection resource ‘I am a Man and a Brother’ and includes student and teacher packs.  The educational resource explores Wedgwood’s anti-slavery medallion and how it’s history can inspire anti-racist change today. The design was in partnership with founder of I Am Ally, Grace Barrett, and includes supporting material and guidance to help you prepare and deliver workshops in school and at the V&A Wedgwood Collection.

‘Exploring Ceramics’

Developed with the V&A Wedgwood and Design Lab Nation V&A Ceramicist in Resident, Florence Dwyer, this resource explores the properties and uses of clay and ceramics in art and design. Students can take part in a range of innovate hands-on activities and be inspired by the incredible breadth of ceramic objects in the V&A collections. Designed to support the teaching of the Art & Design and Design Technology curriculum at KS3 and KS4.
