Artisan Demonstrations | See Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things!

Saturday 24 March 2018, 10am – 4pm | Figure Making and Casting

Sunday 25 March 2018, 10am – 4pm | Figure Making, Casting and Prestige Painting

This Spring we're running a series of Artisan Demonstrations at weekends, there's no need to book just come along to these free events. Check the individual dates to see what skills are being showcased.

See up close the craftsmanship that goes into making Wedgwood and ask our artisans any questions you might have about the process and the skills that have been handed down and honed over generations.

Figure Making | Creating clay figures to decorate the jasperware
See the knocking, waggling and trimming up close. It might look easy but it takes a trained eye and a sure touch, as even the slightest error will ruin a figure.

Prestige Painting | Precision hand painting
Unique skill is needed to apply paint directly by hand to the piece. See our artist as they skilfully paint decorative scenes and patterns onto the ware.

Casting | See how liquid slip is cast into plaster of Paris moulds
Timing is at the heart of the caster’s craft, they must consider the humidity and clay composition to judge the precise moment when the clay has set.

Demonstrations take place in World of Wedgwood throughout the day, ask at reception for details.
