The V&A Wedgwood Collection invites you to a book launch, conversation and tour on24th June, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Windrush.

The book, by Esther Stapleton-Stone and Bishop James Stapleton, is entitled ‘The Life of William Chong, a Windrush Passenger’. It documents William’s journey from Kingston, Jamaica as a 19-year-old landing at Tilbury Docks, London in 1948.  His story is interwoven with facts from the Caribbean community as well as the rejection, discrimination, employment and housing issues of the time.  William received a Special Lifetime Windrush Award in recognition of his work in the community and in Nottingham Schools.

It also provides historical references to give a broad understanding of the Windrush era. These historical references include Wedgwood’s Anti-Slavery Medallion.

The event will start with an introduction and tour of the new Wedgwood anti-slavery medallion display. Esther will then share about her personal experience writing and publishing the book, followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
